Do you ever feel hopeless after experiencing a series of negative life events?

A string of negative life events can cause us to feel like we’ve lost control of our life. Sometimes, it seems like everything that can go wrong does go wrong. It’s not surprising to find yourself feeling hopeless and without direction or purpose. But keep in mind there are always options for moving forward.

In this video, I discussed how I managed to find meaning despite the pain and hopelessness I experienced when I was going through those difficult times in life.

Here are some of my key takeaways from that experience:

  1. Life presents challenges and many of these challenges are unexpected.
  2. There is always a reason behind everything that happens in our life. Most of the time, it will eventually make sense even if we don’t recognize it right away.
  3. No matter how great or how terrible your circumstances are, you always have the choice of how to react to them.
  4. It is natural for us to feel sad or upset over a negative life event but staying negative will not help us get better or change the situation.
  5. There are things that are beyond our control but there are also many things that are within our circle of influence. Taking positive action and thinking positive thoughts towards those things helps us to regain our power.
