About our guest:

Kevin Kearns is a highly experienced transformation coach, author, keynote speaker, and corporate consultant with over three decades of experience in the fitness industry. He is a former strength and conditioning coach for 15 Ultimate Fighting athletes, which has given him a unique perspective on the importance of physical and mental wellness. After overcoming his own personal struggles and thriving through them, Kevin is now dedicated to helping others recover from mental health challenges and take control of their lives so they can reach their full potential, both physically and mentally.

Kevin’s Story

Kevin’s life was filled with obstacles that he never imagined he would face. Early on in life, he faced a lot of challenges including bullying and living with an alcoholic father who died when he was 12.

His life changed when he learned karate from his uncle after his father passed away. This new skill gave him the confidence he needed to face the world and overcome the challenges that came his way. He went on to study at UMass Boston and received his degree in Exercise Physiology. In 1987, Kevin had his first client as a personal trainer, started his own successful business, and eventually got married.

Life was going well until 2005 when his wife began struggling with alcoholism. They underwent a challenging divorce process. And after 22 years, Kevin found himself living alone in a new house away from his children. Though his business was thriving, his personal life was falling apart. He struggled with depression and attempted suicide twice, but was thankfully stopped by a state trooper.

Despite trying everything from therapy to drugs, nothing seemed to work until he underwent 12 treatments of ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy). Things started to get better, and he found the strength to share his story with others. In January 2020, he started talking about his depression and suicidal attempts, which inspired him to write his second book, “There’s Light in the Tunnel: How to Survive and Thrive in Depression.”

Kevin’s story has helped countless people who are struggling with depression and trauma. He has shown that it is possible to overcome adversity and come out stronger on the other side. Through his journey, he has learned the importance of taking care of oneself and seeking help when needed. His story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and that even though pain is inevitable, suffering is a choice.

In this episode of Happy and Healthy Mind with Dr. Rozina, Kevin shared tips on how he was able to:

  • build resilience and thrive through difficult life situations
